More than the Watchman

Psalm 130:1,2,5,6
"Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD.  Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, and in His Word do I hope.
My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning;
indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning."

There has recently been going around on Facebook these notes titled "25 Random Things about _______" .  At first, I resisted filling one out, because I was too busy to be bothered with such things.  However, I began to find myself addicted to reading my friend's 25 Random Things, and finally gave in to the pressure and completed one myself -- not that life is about me, nor is life about you.   As a God-follower, however, my life is about someone MUCH greater than me - Almighty God, Creator of the ends of the earth.  I have been enjoying getting to know people a bit better by reading their 25 Random Things, but I am reminded that God knows me better than I even know myself.  If He wrote a Facebook note entitled "25 Random Things About Ben Finch," I would probably even be surprised by some of the items on it.

You may be wondering what's the point, and what does this have to do with my title and the opening verse about the Watchmen.  Well, as I write this first blog, I am mindful of several others close to me who are going through a hardship that I have not experienced or may never know.  I have teenagers in my student ministry that are having real, physical, spiritual, and emotional struggles.  There are members in our church facing battles that seem impossible.  A question I might ask myself would be, "How am I able to minister to needs, when I have no idea what they really need?"  The answer to that question is simply that I can't.  BUT, my God, the Almighty One, can; and not only can He, but He longs to meet those needs.

My job, your job, is to point others to Him.  To cry out to the Lord for those who are hurting and needy.  To trust in His Word that promises He will never leave us or forsake us.  To hang tight to the hope of a future in Heaven.  To wait.  To Pray.  To watch.  To expectantly watch for God to work in lives (others and our own) and wait for Him to do as He promised.  To wait and to watch - more than the watchmen is watching and waiting for the morning.

Psalm 30:4,5
"Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name.
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime;
weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning."
